However, I do firmly believe that first 4 line poem is for Korea, a beautiful and enchanting country itself. The four-line poem quoted in its original form above was definitely written by Tagore 'for Korea' or at least for the Koreans he met on his visit to Tokyo in 1929. The story goes that he wrote it because he had promised Yi T'aero that he would visit Korea himself, but this turned out to be impossible so he gave him this poem instead. The four-line poem quoted in its original form above was definitely written by Tagore ‘for Korea’ or at least for the Koreans he met on his visit to Tokyo in 1929. The story goes that he wrote it because he had promised Yi T’aero that he would visit Korea himself, but this turned out to be impossible so he gave him this poem instead.
